Poem found

This was in one of the heaps. It was obviously meant to be a rough jotting, a start of something longer, but I think it makes a point just as it is. (I have also found quite a few musical jottings; scribbled melody lines in my own musical shorthand and odd lines and verses. O, to have a piano again!)

HINDSIGHT

The bitter tang of hindsight: 'I wish, I wish, I wish...'
'If only...' and 'Why didn't I...' serve up a sour dish.
If I could have that chance again, would I, or would I not?
Whichever way you look at it, it prods a painful spot.

Are you sure that's not a song? I can hear Julie Felix or Sandy Denny singing that as a chorus.

If you want to know the tune, I'll try to sing it to you if you ring me one afternoon next week.

Well, all I found was my scribbles with words crossed out and an apter one substituted. If it's a subconscious memory, then I apologise and will remove the posr forthwith! I've been Googling the words and can't find them anywhere.

No, I didn't mean an existing song. Sorry for any confusion! I meant it reads like lyrics.

Oh! I was beginning to think I'd heard it on the radio and scribbled it down... though that didn't explain the rewordings and crossings out! I was starting to worry that none of my poems and songs were original, and I'd produced them through automatic writing! Having been a songwriter since I was 6, a lot of my poems read like lyrics and come out of my head with a tune already attached.

Ditto for me, too, Hydra.

My very first song was produced on a teeny plastic kiddie piano I got for Christmas when I was 5 and three-quarters. It was called 'Bluebells In The Wood'. Playing and singing it with piano was fine, but if I did it with a recorder or a mouth organ it used to make our dog howl.
