Lunch with an old beau

I met Jim in 1980 at a post box in South Ealing Road and we went out for a few months. He was connected to the US navy and was working at the embassy in London. Since then, he's been all over the world but is now in the UK for a while and tracked me down via the internet. He wants to write thrillers when he retires in a few years' time and has asked my help in editing them for me. So yesterday we met up for the first time in almost 30 years. It was a glorious day and after lunch we went for a walk alongside the Grand Union Canal in Uxbridge. He hadn't changed. A bit bigger, maybe, but I'd have recognised him anywhere, even after all this time. Wonder if he thought the same about me, though? He didn't say!

Am intrigued as to how you meet a man at a postbox and start going out!

He brought a friend with him, Jacula. An astrologer who wanted to meet me. To answer you, Joanne, the mail box had two slots and no signs saying what each was for, so he asked me where he should put a letter for abroad, and we got talking, he asked me for a drink... and that was it! I got chatted up just last week by a guy in a charity shop who was looking for old clocks and cameras to buy. He gave me his card and invited me to call him. I didn't, but it was nice to be asked! I once had a wonderful romance with a man who came to my flat to do the survey for the buyer. I came in, we had a Mills & Boon moment, and a year of passion ensued. We are still in touch today. In fact, he sometimes reads this blog!

Ah, so not a rekindling of romance with the Navy Seal office guy then?

As for the other stuff, yes, it's nice to be asked, even if you don't follow up on it.
