But it ...I readily admit that I love these gadgets. But it doesn't mean I have no soul. I think it will be very sad when or if paper books are no longer available except through charity and second hand shops and museums. It is also true that there is no experience like sitting down with the new Iain M Banks book (no more of those, even more sadly); the smell of a new book, the anticipation coming from opening to the first page and getting stuck in. Ebooks just lack that romance, that feel.

Having said that, I like that I don't have to balance the marmalade jar on the book to try to keep it from closing while I eat my breakfast. I love that if I leave my kindle at home, but get caught up in some kind of delay I can carry on reading from the same place on my phone, or my iPad, or my laptop (I did say I love gadgets, right?) I like that I can be reading a book I just heard of a minute later.

I also love audio books, now that you don't have to have a cd to carry around. Where does that fit in? How could an impersonal little hi-tech device ever replace my lovely, much read books, or all those gorgeous new ones on my ‘to buy’ list?
But time moves on, and now I wouldn't be without my Kindle. It's great for finding out what other books a favourite or newly discovered author has written, and be able to download a free sample chapter before buying.
I still love my print books, but I wouldn't be without my Kindle. So much easier in bed and no aching wrists! But I do still love to read a proper book now and then (if only so I can whip back and forth through the pages as you say).

I think you're right - there is room for both. I wouldn't want to be without either xTeresa Ashbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15350697922935549188noreply@blogger.com
